BodyWorks & Laser Clinic, LLC, a health and rehabilitative treatment center located on Cardinal Lane in Howard, is excited to announce the addition of cryotherapy to their available wellness services.
Cryotherapy was first utilized in Japan, in 1979, as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. Studies conducted over the past two decades in Europe have established cryotherapy as a powerful treatment for many inflammatory disorders and injuries. Professional athletes have found cryotherapy to be a valuable tool aiding in the reduction of recovery time after training and increasing athletic performance.
BodyWorks & Laser Clinic, LLC offers both whole body and localized cryotherapy treatments.
Whole body cryotherapy exposes your body to extremely cold temperatures ranging from -130 to 184°F for one to three minutes. During the session, the body’s exposure to the cold results in vasoconstriction which decreases excessive inflammation throughout the body, enhancing the oxygen supply and reducing the level of toxins in your blood. Temperatures of this level also trigger your body to produce endorphins – hormones released in the brain and nervous system known to reduce pain.
Localized cryotherapy applications are comparable to icing, but much more effective. Spot specific cryotherapy treatment is short-term exposure to extreme cold to targeted areas of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints). Localized cryotherapy is able to penetrate deeper into damaged tissues to reduce pain, inflammation, swelling and stimulate quicker healing. It is often used in recovering from post-surgical procedures or injuries.
In addition to rheumatoid arthritis and post-surgical/injury recovery cryotherapy has also been shown to provide relief for chronic pain syndromes, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, headaches and migraines.
BodyWorks & Laser Clinic will be hosting an Open House Saturday, January 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon, 721 Cardinal Lane, Suite 200. During the open house, a whole body and a localized cryotherapy treatment will be demonstrated, as well as an opportunity to win a complimentary session.
