The Duck Creek Triathlon, hosted by the Village of Howard, will return for a third consecutive year on June 28, 2026.
This fully supported, chip-timed sprint triathlon features a 750m swim in the popular Duck Creek Quarry, a new 15.5-mile bike ride through scenic Howard, and an out-and-back 5k run on the Mountain Bay Trail.
“The Duck Creek Triathlon is open to athletes of all levels,” said Howard Leisure Services Director Jon Rupno. “We always have a good number of competitive triathletes, but we also welcome beginners. We have a buddy wave option for those who want to swim with a flotation device and a relay option for those who want to grab a friend or two to split the course with them.”
Village Administrator Paul Evert, who came up with the idea for the Duck Creek Triathlon, said the event is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the Village of Howard.
“Duck Creek Quarry Park is such a beautiful amenity, and it is the perfect location for this event,” Evert said. “Athletes get to bike through the more scenic parts of the community and take a run on the Mountain Bay Trail, so they get to experience a little bit of all the best parts of the village.”
Registration is now open for both the individual and relay options. Early bird pricing goes through Feb. 13, 2026, and registration fees include the race entry, a technical race T-shirt, a finisher’s medal, sponsor coupons and other swag, and post-race snacks and refreshments.
For those who want to be part of the fun but do not want to race, a variety of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available too. Local non-profits can register to provide volunteers for the triathlon and earn money for each volunteer hour that is worked on their behalf.
All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt, a complimentary age-appropriate beverage from the Howard Commons Activity Center tap trailer, and other fun stuff.
