The Howard-Suamico Historical Society will hold its’ semi-annual Used Book Sale on Thursday, August 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to coincide with Howard Suamico Daze. The used book sale will be held at Ancestry Acres located at 12787 Velp Avenue in Suamico. Books, games, CDs, DVDs, games and puzzles can still be donated at Kimps Ace Hardware in Howard, Thornberry Cottage and the Suamico Village Hall.
Scholarship committee chairman Mary Drzewiecki has announced the 2022 winner of the HSHS $1,000 scholarship to be Maggie Luedke. Maggie’s essay was on the Importance of the Early Churches and Religion in Howard.
On Thursday, August 11, the general membership meeting will be held at Ancestry Acres located at 12787 Velp Avenue at 6:30 p.m. and will feature guest speaker Barb Chisholm recalling the Peshtigo fire of October 8, 1871. The fire is the worst recorded forest fire in North American history and destroyed millions of dollars of property, timberland and between 1,200 to 2,400 lives. This presentation is open to members and the general public and is handicap accessible.
