The Village of Howard is proud to partner with KRICK LLC to bring a popular log rolling event to the village. The 17th Annual Three Rivers Roleo competition will take place on Saturday, July 12 at Duck Creek Quarry located at 2140 Glendale Avenue. The professional competition will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the event will end at 2:00 p.m. Amateur competition is scheduled for Friday, July 11 starting at 4:00 p.m.

Three Rivers Roleo was featured on Fox Sports North/Fox Sports Wisconsin for five years. The competition features some of the world’s top athletes, including former World Champion log rollers Anthony Polentini, Tanner Hallett and Shana Verstegen.
The sport of log rolling first emerged in the mid-19th century through lumberjacks working in the logging industry as friendly competition between logging camps. Today, lumberjack sports are kept alive primarily in former logging areas and remain popular among athletes of all ages. Two such lumberjack athletes are siblings, Jacob Rick and Katie Rick Burke, who each started log rolling at an early age. In 2008, the pair started the Three Rivers Roleo in their Mississippi River hometown of Onalaska. Eventually, Katie moved to Brown County, following her younger brother who had moved to the region.

Howard Village Administrator Paul Evert said the siblings reached out to him a few months ago about possibly bringing the 17th Annual Three Rivers Roleo to the village’s Duck Creek Quarry.

“The event is unique but also is a great fit for the facility and for our community,” Evert said. “Our staff was happy to help with the logistical coordination and also to build on it to encourage visitors and spectators to come check it out.”

Evert said the family friendly event is free and open to the public and will include food trucks and live music. The competition may be viewed from the beach or the sidewalks and trails in the surrounding park area.
