Duck Creek Quarry Park, located at 2140 Glendale Avenue in Howard, is now open, but the beach area is open limited hours and primarily for Howard residents with a wristband. Due to very high water levels that have shrunk the usable beach area and larger-than-normal expected crowds resulting from the closure of other local pool facilities, the Village Board voted 5-4 to open Duck Creek Quarry Park with the following conditions:
• The entire park is now open. The beach area will have limited access between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. only. The beach will be closed outside of those hours.
• All beach users, including swimmers, sun bathers, and picnickers, must have a wristband to enter the beach area. The reusable, customized wristbands are free, good for the entire season, and are available now for residents to pick up at Howard Village Hall.
• A photo I.D. or proof of residency is required to pick up a wristband. Village Hall is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Please plan ahead, as wristbands will not be available at the quarry.
• Adults may pick up wristbands for all members of their family. Each household also can receive two additional wristbands that may be used to bring resident or non-resident guests. Please note: Lost or misplaced wrist bands cannot be replaced.
• The remainder of the park and the trail will be open to all visitors and for all uses, except swimming, during normal park hours. Fishing is allowed throughout the park. Non-motorized boating, paddle boarding, etc. should launch from the dock, and dog swimming also is designated in that area. Those activities are not allowed on or from the swimming beach.
• Please follow the rules, be safe, and enjoy this beautiful resource. Security personnel will be checking for wristbands, patrolling the park, and writing citations for violations.
