A classic barber provides the services of the traditional American barber shop. Hot lather-straight razor shaves, crewcut, fade, flat top, head shaves as well as using pomades, tonics, and oils for gentlemen’s grooming.
Dave Wickert has been a Barber since 1981 getting his start with his father-in-law, Don Cahoy at Don’s Barber Shop in Hudson, WI. After several years of barbering, Dave returned to his first career as a vocal music teacher.
Wickert moved to Howard and taught vocal music until retirement in 2011. While teaching at Bay View Middle School, Dave asked math teacher, Mr. Lloyd Walters, where he got his “flat top” haircut. Mr. Walters replied, Russ’ Barber Shop. A “flat top” cut is the most difficult haircut to give.
After being a customer at Russ’, Dave started to work part-time while teaching school. Back in the old days teachers dressed in a shirt and tie. After teaching school Dave would walk into Russ’ with his black box of barber tools and wearing a shirt and tie. The barbers would greet him, ‘The Doctor’s in”. Thus, the name Dr. Dave the Barber was created. Hanging on to that title, Dr. Dave continued to work at Russ’ Barbershop until 2014. He then moved his barber chair to Michael’s Ivory Salon in Howard.
Upon Michael’s closing in 2017, Dr. Dave the Barber relocated to Sola Salons behind McDonalds at 2450 Velp Avenue in Howard.
“I invite the men of Howard-Suamico to experience a classic American barber shop”, said Dr. Dave the Barber.
