The Academic and Career Planning (ACP) program at the Howard-Suamico School District (HSSD) is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post-secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills. The ACP program at HSSD has grown from small classroom activities to a full district wide effort to provide students with multiple opportunities to learn and grow. The ACP program pairs the Graduate Profile characteristics with classroom content to allow students to identify personal strengths that lead toward post-secondary success.
The ACP program at HSSD is thankful for the generous support from the Howard Suamico Business and Professional Association, who provided a grant through donations from the annual HSBPA Casino Night.
The following Bay Port programs received a direct benefit from contributions:
• Agriculture Education – storage chest to lock and secure tools
• Business and Marketing Education – Square system for school store
• Family and Consumer Science – KitchenAid mixers, food scales, and dry goods storage containers
• Technology and Engineering Education – wireless cameras for Photography courses
• Youth Apprenticeship – student recognition event for students who aligned the Graduate Profile with their Youth Apprenticeship job
The following Bay View programs were also beneficiaries of the grant:
• Financial Literacy class – Monopoly and Life board games
• STEM class – CNC machine, bit press, 3D printer, and sidewinder
To round out the ACP grant provided to HSSD, the remaining money was used to support an entrepreneurship project for the 4th grade students at Bay Harbor Elementary School. Students are working in small groups to write a business plan to pitch a food truck idea for the NFL draft. Here are just a few things that students will be learning during this project: concepts of entrepreneurship, business management and goal setting, financial analysis, product development, marketing, and effective communication.
