The HSSD Graduate Profile embodies our vision to equip every student with the essential skills for success in life, career, and future education. Beyond academic proficiency, our focus lies in nurturing seven key characteristics:
• Self Starter: Is motivated to take action.
• Critical Thinker: Investigates the quality of ideas and how they connect.
• Collaborator: Is a helpful and active participant who shares responsibility while working toward a common goal.
• Communicator: Seeks to understand others and to be understood.
• Adaptable: Is able to adjust.
• Responsible: Acts with empathy and takes ownership of the outcomes of their choices.
• Solutionist: Solves problems.
Since 2018, Graduate Profile implementation has evolved and students have taken it upon themselves to own these characteristics. Previously, our efforts centered on teaching the principles of the Graduate Profile through “Profile to Portfolio” and “Profile to Practice.” This year’s focus has shifted to “Profile in Practice.”
During the February 10 Board of Education meeting, students and staff showcased their growth and mastery of these characteristics during a dynamic 30-minute Graduate Profile Learning Walk in the Bay View Library.
Board members engaged directly with K-12 students and staff, exploring how they implement these skills in their academic and personal lives.
We, the Board of Education, found great joy in discussing these traits with our students and witnessing the inspiring interactions between students and staff. Parents, too, shared in this pride as they observed their children’s growth firsthand. Such events underscore our pride in representing the vibrant HSSD community. This was a wonderful first-hand experience that showed us just how important and essential the Graduate Profile is in preparing our students for the future.
