Haven Animal Rescue and Community Outreach has been chosen to participate in the 2019 Give BIG Green Bay event that will run from noon on February 20th to noon on February 21st. The 24-hour online giving event is hosted by the Green Bay Packers Foundation and the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and is designed to raise awareness of the important work nonprofits do in the Greater Green Bay community.
“We are so excited to be a part of this year’s event,” said Leigh Ann Wagner Kroening, founder and president of Haven Animal Rescue. “Not only is this an opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the homeless pets in our care, but it’s a wonderful way to let our community know who we are and what we do.”
Wagner Kroening said proceeds from the event will support Haven Animal Rescue’s Animal Care Fund, which provides vet care, medication, and supplies for the homeless pets at the Howard shelter. She said the rescue also hopes to expand its Pets are Family temporary care program, which provides housing for pets of people who are in transition due to homelessness, domestic violence, and hospitalization.
Haven Animal Rescue is a grassroots organization that is completely run by volunteers. The shelter receives no public funding, has no paid staff, and has seen a drastic increase in requests from people who need help caring for or safely rehoming their pets.
“We have a generous community that we hope to rally,” Wagner Kroening said. “Our goal is to reach new donors and hopefully recruit new supporters and volunteers along the way.”
Haven Animal Rescue is one of 40 nonprofit organizations selected for the program, which is in its second year. Participating organizations represent arts and culture, animal welfare, community improvement, education, environment and conservation, health and wellness, hunger and homelessness, human services, military and law enforcement, and youth development.
Each of the organizations has an online profile with a donation portal that will become active at noon on February 20th. Every donation made online during the event will go further, thanks to a $250,000 matching grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation and an additional $62,500 in Giving Day incentives thanks to other sponsors.
