HSBPA check presentation

The Howard-Suamico Business and Professional Association presented a check to Paul Evert and Geoff Farr, Village of Howard Administrators, and members of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Alliance.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Alliance will build a memorial to honor veterans from the eighteen county Northeastern Wisconsin region who gave their lives in the service of their country.  Over 2,000 servicemen and women from this region died in defending liberty in conflicts around the world, beginning with World War I and extending through the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.

Each service member’s name will be etched on polished black granite panels within the Memorial’s iconic columns remembering them and the sacrifice that they made for their country for all eternity.

The memorial will be built on two acres of land donated by the Village of Howard and construction will begin when all of the $1,500,000 needed to build and endow the maintenance of the Memorial has been raised.     The Veteran’s Alliance is an IRS designated 501 (c) (3) organization.  Contributions made to the Alliance are tax deductible.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial will have some distinctive features:  a 50-foot reflecting pool with the statue of a fallen soldier adds solemn reverence.  Meijer store is underwriting the cost of the sculpture and Bay Industries is covering the cost of the reflecting pool and eternal flame.  An arched entrance with gates will frame the entrance to the Memorial.  Inside the Memorial itself there will be benches where visitors can meditate and reflect on the price that is paid to preserve the freedom and liberties that are the hallmarks of this great nation.

The Memorial will also have an education dimension with etched panel displaying dates and numbers and essential facts about each of the wars and conflicts in which brave Americans made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Board of Directors of the Alliance believes that we must never forget that freedom comes at great cost and that we must remember and honor those who paid a high price.
Contributions may be directed to the attention of Paul Evert, Administrator for the Village of Howard, 2456 Glendale Ave Green Bay, WI  54313, (920) 327-8823, email:  pfevert@villageofhoward.com
